The women behind
our wines

Marie Maartens is one of the unsung heroes behind the success of Org de Rac. She is responsible for the beautiful wildflower arrangements that brighten and beautify the reception and wine tasting area on the estate.

Marie is one of the longest serving workers at Org de Rac. She worked in the vineyards for many years but today she works indoors and takes great pride in the cleanliness and neatness of the offices, reception and tasting area, and the cellar. Marie works especially hard when the estate hosts weddings and other events at its function venue.

It is National Women’s Day on August 9 and we thought it would be fitting to honour Marie and the many other women who contribute their energy, enthusiasm and hard work to the success that is Org de Rac.

Our female workers took a break from their work in the vineyards to pose for this photograph. Come rain or shine, these women work hard at pruning, harvesting and caring for the vines. We are pleased to be able to honour them in Women’s Month.

Wowing the Windy City

Org De Rac was proud of its excellent ranking from wine lovers who visited the Tops at Spar Wine Show in Port Elizabeth from 27 to 29 July. Org de Rac ranked sixth on the list of estates offering the best wine selections of the show.

“I’m very proud of our estate,” said Org de Rac Marketing Manager, Bethchen Zaayman, “we ranked very highly against some stiff competition.”

Bethchen said that the Port Elizabeth leg of the Tops at Spar Wine Show was a high profile event that allowed wine lovers to taste wines from a wide variety of regions. The show offered Org de Rac a good opportunity to showcase its wines in the Eastern Cape.

This is how Port Elizabeth’s wine lovers ranked the top exhibitors at the Tops at Spar Wine Show:
  1. Froggit & Vonkel
  2. Neil Ellis
  3. Babylonstoren
  4. Lanzerac
  5. Leeuwenkuil
  6. Org De Rac
  7. De Grendal
  8. Bosman Family Vineyards
  9. Zorgvliet
  10. Reyneke
  11. Tokara
  12. Bartinney

The wine is in the bottle!

Excitement is mounting ahead of the release of Org de Rac’s 2017 Chardonnay. This is the most popular wine produced by the estate and Chardonnay enthusiasts will be pleased to know that in late July, bottles of the 2017 vintage were steadily rolling off the production line, ready for labelling.

“Org de Rac is so well suited to the production of premium Chardonnay and the quality of this 2017 vintage is quite exhilarating,” says winemaker Frank Meaker. “It is a fruity wine with a subtle wood character and a lingering minerality that beautifully captures the unique terroir of our Chardonnay vineyard, located on the banks of the Berg River.”

Franks says the 2017 Org de Rac Chardonnay is a “wine for all seasons” and he hopes the estate can keep up with demand for the newly bottled vintage.
