Something to look forward to

There’s a buzz of excitement in the Org de Rac cellar as the winemakers prepare to bottle the estate’s first Sauvignon Blanc wine.

“We are excited to get the wine into the bottles and onto the shelves,” says Bethchen Zaayman, Org de Rac’s gracious Marketing Manager.

The Org de Rac Sauvignon Blanc 2017 is scheduled for release in October.

Org de Rag does not farm Sauvignon Blanc grapes because the Swartland region does not offer the best terroir for the cultivar. But, a joint venture with Silvermist Estate, an organic vineyard situated high on the mountain slopes above Constantia − one of the best known regions in South Africa for growing Sauvignon Blanc grapes − has made it possible for Org de Rac to produce a Sauvignon Blanc wine to complement its popular Chardonnay wines.

Asked to describe the Org de Rac Sauvignon Blanc, winemaker Frank Meaker said it is “a serious wine… typical of a tropical-style Sauvignon Blanc”.

“It’s got a beautiful mouth feel, it’s crammed with fruit and a lingering note of fresh acidity,” he said, adding that the Sauvignon Blanc will only get better with time. Wine lovers are urged to keep a few bottles in their cellars for their future drinking pleasure.

Org de Rac will produce 6 500 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc 2017.

Hello spring!

After just a few days of warmer weather, the estate has come alive. There’s a sprinkling of green buds on the vines and the sound of birdsong in the gardens. How lovely is the spectacle of growing things!

Monte de Dios “A truly premium wine”

Spring in South Africa means the onset of cooler weather in Sweden. In preparation for cold winter nights and warming, meaty stews, wine importers Vinia have launched Org de Rac Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2015 in Sweden for the first time.

Vinia describes the Cabernet as "truly a premium wine, packed with fruit and with a freshly savoured flavour with blackcurrants, herbs, cherries, cedar, chocolate, spices and mint."
